AGGRESSIVE TEAM ITALIA AMONG THE PROTAGONISTS IN THE TCR EUROPE ALSO AT PAUL RICARD
Mauro Guastamacchia’s team obtains a new Top 10 placement at the end of a very hot weekend in France. Levente Losonczy, on the rookies podium in race-1, fights among the bests after starting from pole position in the second heat
An intense weekend saw Aggressive Team Italia as protagonist, engaged on the French circuit of Le Castellet for the fifth round of the TCR Europe season. The appointment in Provence smiled at the Lombard team, who with the young Levente Losonczy obtained a third place in the rookie standings and ninth overall after a growing race-1, while in the second challenge he found himself for the first time in the continental series starting from pole position.
The Lombard stable can therefore return from Le Castellet and face the summer break with the awareness of being able to constantly fight among the greats of Europe, after showing its muscles on several occasions and having been the only team in the race to keep the Hyundai Motorsport colors high, providing a good demonstration of professionalism in a weekend characterized by the well-known events on the BoP issue. For the Hungarian driver himself, this is a nice injection of confidence in view of the second part of the championship, after a first half of the season that saw him constantly growing between the European and Italian series.
The Italian team started the French appointment on the right foot, thanks to a Losonczy who immediately appeared at ease and was able to get an excellent seventh time at the end of the first free practice session. The 20-year-old Magyar then further lowered his performance in qualifying, obtaining a tenth time which, by virtue of the grid inversion provided for by the regulation, would have allowed him to start from pole in the final heat.
At the start of race-1, the Aggressive Team Italia standard-bearer immediately tried to recover from his rivals, trying to take advantage of every opportunity to gain ground: the final ninth place, conquered at the end of a regular race, was consequently the right recognition after the many battles in track. For Losonczy, in addition to the best result of the season, there was also the satisfaction of being able to climb the third step of the podium in the ranking reserved for rookies, to the applause of his team.
Expectations were consequently very high ahead of race-2, with the number 264 Hyundai Elantra N TCR ready to start from pole position. When the traffic lights went out, Losonczy was the protagonist of an excellent starting point, battling in the front with Davidovski’s Audi and finishing the first lap of the race in the lead. Unfortunately, in the following and frenetic tussle the Hungarian suffered a touch by an opponent at the Mistral chicane which caused a slow puncture and finally an early return to the pits just before the checkered flag.
Mauro Guastamacchia (Team Principal Aggressive Team Italia): “It was a very important weekend for us, which allowed us to collect other precious points and consolidate our position in the TCR Europe. We are still short of experience in this championship, but the fact that we can measure ourselves against the best at this level must give us the awareness that we are working in the right direction. Levente was a true lion and is continuing to grow: he had the great character to fight starting from pole in race-2 despite knowing that he would have to pay for a technical gap against those who started behind him, at least until he was forced to retire due to a puncture. For our part, we will continue to provide him with maximum support in order to allow him to do well in the second half of the championship as well and obtain new satisfactions together. As always, thanks also go to all the team staff for the great work they have done: now we are taking a short vacation, after which we will be ready to come back stronger and more energized than before!”
Levente Losonczy (Aggressive Team Italia driver): “The start of race-1 wasn’t bad, I even made up one position. Towards the end I locked the tires twice, so I was slightly behind my rivals, but the car was super. I was able to ride at a constant pace and finish in the Top10. It was great to be on pole in race-2 and to be on the front row again after Imola. The start was good but then an Audi overtook me on the straight. He made a mistake at the end of the first lap and I got back into the lead, positioning myself to avoid any attack. Unfortunately that didn’t happen, four cars passed me quickly. Even at the Mistral chicane I wasn’t lucky, one of the Cupras pushed me and my race was ruined. The car would have been able to keep up with the pace of the group and be able to make up positions, but I had a slow puncture and had to retire. Unfortunately on the straight it was not possible to compete with the Audis, they were particularly fast. As usual, I would like to thank Aggressive Team Italia, Pepe Oriola, Bálint Hatvani and Fit4Race for their efforts and my father, our partners and the Hungarian Motorsport Academy for their support”.
Little break now for Mauro Guastamacchia’s men. The next TCR Europe event will be held in Monza on 22-24 September, an event that will follow the Brianza stage of TCR Italy by a week.
